Data Breach Notification

Dear Reconstructing Judaism Family,

Recently, we were notified by one of our software vendors, Blackbaud, that they experienced a ransomware attack from February 2020 to May 2020.

Blackbaud has confirmed that data from Reconstructing Judaism was part of the breach. Among the information accessed were names, addresses, phone numbers, emails and birthdays. Blackbaud assured us that all digitally secured data remained secure and that data such as credit card information, account and bank information or Social Security numbers were not accessed or compromised. As policy, Reconstructing Judaism does not store such data as credit card information, account and bank information or Social Security numbers.  Even still, Blackbaud assures that all digitally secured data remains secure and that such data was not compromised.

Blackbaud took a number of steps to remedy the breach including hiring cybersecurity and notifying law enforcement experts to verify the breach and its scope. Blackbaud stated to its clients (including thousands of other nonprofits, hospitals, and foundations alongside Reconstructing Judaism) that it believes that no data went beyond the cybercriminal, or that the data has been misused or disseminated publicly.

Even though the information taken was “public information,” a scammer might use this information to misrepresent that they are contacting you on behalf of Reconstructing Judaism. We suggest that you remain careful and cautious about any email or phone solicitations. Please contact Reconstructing Judaism directly to verify that any unsolicited call or email seeking information of any kind representing Reconstructing Judaism is authentic.

We sincerely apologize for this incident and regret any inconvenience it may cause. Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding this matter and/or the protections available to you, please do not hesitate to contact Robert Chavez, Director of Operations at 215.576.0800 ext. 111 or RChavez@ReconstructingJudaism.org
